Hey, I’m Kat. I became a Mama in 2007 and self-employed in 2008. Of course with a growing family and shrinking income comes the need to budget. Despite reduced shopping funds I still think it is worth making the most of my budget and don’t sacrifice style or quality for price. I can often be found trawling the net for the best deal on stuff for my little girl, ToddlerGeek. Thankfully, Budget Bambino Goodies often takes the effort out of the search as it always has the inside edge on budget shopping.
Favourite Budget website? - Kiddicare normally has good deals on big brand items and normally offer free delivery over £50.
Best Budget Buy you have made? - There are too many to recount! I have picked up some awesome Katvig and Molo clothes on ebay for next to nothing. NCT Nearly New Sales are always worth the risk of serious injury - the last one I went to I came away with so much stuff I could barely carry it all! Our biggest bargain though was probably our cot: I bought it for £60 and sold the curtains & lampshade that came with it for £30.
Do you prefer trawling the web for sales or actual shopping? - When I’m looking for baby bargains I’d much rather be behind the keyboard but nothing beats being in the thick of a Monsoon sale!
What did you last read? - Samantha Smythe’s Modern Family Journal by Lucy Cavendish
Best Budget Shopping Tip - I think being on a budget doesn’t always mean spending less on everything. It is about shopping carefully for fewer things.
My best tip is to join your local freecycle group (http://www.freecycle.org/). People give away things they no longer need but which are too good for landfill. We were lucky enough to be given a beautiful crib with lots of life left in it which we will pass on once we have finished having children. By saving money on a moses basket or crib we were able to spend it in other areas.
